A Coordinated Approach to Treat the Whole Child
Children with ear differences can face a wide range of challenges depending on their condition. Our multispecialty team meets often to review next steps and develop treatment approaches that address all of a child鈥檚 needs.聽
Your child鈥檚 plan may include the following:
- Plastic surgery聽to treat ear differences using advanced surgical techniques聽
- Ear, nose, and throat or 鈥淓NT鈥聽(otolaryngology) to diagnose middle ear problems and provide reconstruction and hearing restoration surgeries (including cochlear implants)

- Genetic testing and counseling聽to look for a genetic (inherited) cause of an ear difference and help you understand how your family may be affected

- Optometry聽to make glasses your child can wear while they鈥檙e waiting for ear reconstruction

- 3D photography聽to help plan and track your child鈥檚 progress during treatment聽
- Speech and language therapy聽to evaluate and treat speech problems (English and Spanish)
- Support services聽such as social work, interpreter services and school resources
- Child Life program聽offers kid-friendly activities to reduce fears and help your child prepare for surgery
